WASHINGTON, D.C. -Congressman Jim Costa, D-Fresno, spoketoday on the House floor calling for the passage of H.R. 3, The Stem CellResearch Enhancement Act of 2007. Costa's remarks, as prepared for delivery,follow:
"Mr. Speaker: I rise to speak in support of H.R. 3, whichwould expand stem cell research.
"The narrow view of stem cell research espoused by theAdministration places unrealistic limitations on the medical researchcapabilities of this nation.
WASHINGTON,D.C. - Congressman Jim Costa,D-Fresno, was selected today as chairman of the Subcommittee on Energy andMineral Resources of House Natural Resources Committee.
Costa's selection was announced by Natural ResourcesCommittee Chairman Nick Rahall, D-WV.
Commenting on his Subcommittee chairmanship Costa said, "Ibelieve this will afford us a bipartisan opportunity to address our energyneeds. The Subcommittee will play a role in developing a new direction inreducing U.S.dependence on foreign sources of energy."

FRESNO, CA- In the wake of recent storms that deluged the CentralValley, Congressman Jim Costa announced today (1/6/06) that the 20thCongressional District will receive nearly $1.5 million from the United StatesDepartment of Homeland Security's Federal Emergency Management Agency.

WASHINGTON, D.C.- Praising the nation's victims'rights movement as having "not just a voice, but a vision," Congressman JimCosta, D- Fresno, today introduced a concurrent resolution in the House ofRepresentatives expressing Congress' support for the goals and ideals ofNational Crime Victims' Rights Week. Theobservance of National Crime Victims' Rights Week will take place April 23through 29.
FRESNO, CA- In order to help combat juvenile crime in the CentralValley, Congressman Jim Costa announced today the 20thCongressional District will receive over $200,000 in funds from the UnitedStates Department of Justice.
Fresno City and County will receive a total of $218,649 fromthe Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Representative Costa noted, "The FresnoCity's Juvenile Accountability Block Grant (JABG) will benefit from this moneysince it will provide them with partial funding for two full-time truancyofficers."

We want to commend Senator Jeff Denham and the Valleydelegation for their work to ensure our fair share of funding in this year'sinfrastructure bond. The flooding thisweek in Central Valley could not be a more vivid demonstration that the San Joaquin Valley must get its fair share of anystate infrastructure bond which goes forward to voters.
A new surface water storage facility on the Upper SanJoaquin Rivermay, in fact, have helped prevent the flooding this week.
