PARLIER, Calif. – The reconstruction of Parlier’s police station is now one step closer to the end following efforts to secure federal funding. 

On the week of July 15, the House Appropriations Committee approved Congressman Jim Costa’s $1 million request for Community Project Funding (CPF) to assist in the reconstruction of the Parlier Police Department (PD) station. The project is focused on bringing much-needed repairs to the building and creating a safer environment for both police personnel and members of the public.

Rep. Jim Costa (D–Fresno) has introduced legislation that seeks to protect people from having to pay an inheritance tax. 

Costa teamed up with a bipartisan group of representatives to introduce a bill in support of preserving the stepped-up basis provision in the tax code. 

Why it matters: The stepped-up provision allows Americans to inherit assets – such as land, equipment and buildings – and adjust their cost basis to reflect the fair market value, which protects them from capital gains taxes.
