COSTA ANNOUNCES HUD GRANTS IN 20TH CONGRESSIONAL DISTRICT

FRESNO,CA - Pointing out the need for localhousing development, Congressman Jim Costa (D - Fresno) announced today that the 20thCongressional District will receive over $4.5 million in Capital Fund grantsfrom the U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

"Each year, public housingauthorities all over the Valley benefit from the Capital Funds provided byHUD," Costa stated. The funds are provided for urban housing development programimprovements and for modernization purposes. "This grant gives local housingauthorities the resources to upgrade existing housing complexes includingpurchasing necessary appliances such as refrigerators and stoves," Costaexplained.

The City of Fresnoand the County ofFresno are two of fourselected HUD grant recipients in the 20th District and will receive$1, 772, 419 and $2, 121, 853 respectively.

"There is a basic need forimprovement in urban housing and development in the Valley," Costa concluded,"and these funds will allow our local Housing Authority leaders to continue toadvance housing development programs throughout the community."
