EXCLUSIVE: Rep. Jim Costa continues push to remodel Parlier PD
PARLIER, Calif. – The reconstruction of Parlier’s police station is now one step closer to the end following efforts to secure federal funding.
On the week of July 15, the House Appropriations Committee approved Congressman Jim Costa’s $1 million request for Community Project Funding (CPF) to assist in the reconstruction of the Parlier Police Department (PD) station. The project is focused on bringing much-needed repairs to the building and creating a safer environment for both police personnel and members of the public.
“Too often, rural police departments are left behind when it comes to federal support,” Costa said in a statement. “I’ve made it my mission to change that. By securing this funding, we’re not just fixing a building—we’re standing up for the officers who serve Parlier and investing in the safety of every family who calls this community home.”
Following the project’s passage in the Appropriations Committee, all 15 of Costa’s CPF requests will be voted on by both chambers of Congress and, if passed, sent to the president for signature. According to Anthony Camacho, communications director for Costa’s office, there is still a great deal of uncertainty ahead, but they are feeling good at this current stage.
The project to improve the building first gained legs in September 2024, with the construction of a new brick fenceand automated gate. Since then, local and federal leaders have been pushing for a two-phase project that will add a public lobby that can also serve as a community room, followed by a remodel to revitalize aging infrastructure.
The city of Parlier voted to begin construction of the addition back in June, but is awaiting federal funding for the repairs and remodel. The remodeling phase will include expansion of the evidence room, repairs of persistent roof leaks, new plumbing, new HVAC systems, new sprinklers, and more.
“Our building, over 40 years old, requires complete renovation to enhance safety and reflect the modern standards expected of a police department,” said Parlier Mayor Alma Beltran in a statement. “We are thankful for the substantial funds Congressman Costa has secured for Parlier.”
The renovations aren’t just for convenience and modernization, but also for the safety of visitors and police personnel. According to a statement from Costa’s office, the station has been targeted by drive-by shootings, arson of a police vehicle, and attempted attacks against officers.
If this project makes it across the finish line, the Parlier PD hopes to create a space for community and law enforcement members to feel safe and supported.
“The transformative modernization of our police department represents a renewed commitment to public safety and trust, serving as a welcoming space for dialogue, outreach programs, and fostering stronger connections between police and residents,” said Parlier Police Chief David Cerda in a statement. “Facility upgrade means a safer and more functional environment that will foster collaboration and enhance morale.”
