Washington, D.C. – Congressman Jim Costa (D-Fresno) today introduced H.R. 1251, the More Water for Our Valley Act, continuing his efforts to find commonsense solutions to California's broken water system. The attached legislation would ease restrictions on pumping that have limited the flow of water to the San Joaquin Valley, ensuring more water for Valley farmers and reasonable protection for endangered species.

FRESNO, CA – Congressman Jim Costa (D-Fresno) unveiled new legislation today that would bring significantly more water to Valley farmers and growers who receive water from the Central Valley Project (CVP) and the California State Water Project (SWP).

"We are pleased with the decision by Natural Resources Committee Chairman Doc Hastings and Water and Power Subcommittee Chairman Tom McClintock to hold a hearing in Fresno on the impact of burdensome regulations on the water supply of the San Joaquin Valley. Nothing demonstrates the devastating impact of these regulations more than the Bureau of Reclamation's announcement today of just 5% more water for our Valley.
The recent earthquake in Japan and the tsunami that swept across the Pacific Ocean have taken thousands of lives and destroyed the homes and livelihoods of countless individuals. My thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Japan in this time of dire need.
