Costa to serve on House Foreign Affairs Committee in the 118th Congress

WASHINGTON - Congressman Jim Costa (CA-21) issued the following statement after he was appointed to serve on the House Foreign Affairs Committee in the 118th Congress:
“At an urgent time in our nation’s history with Russia’s war on Ukraine and China’s rising influence, it’s critical to keep my seat at the table to confront the dire challenges affecting our national security,” said Costa. “As a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, I will work on a bipartisan basis to bolster critical trade relationships, promote diplomacy, protect democracy, and advance U.S. interests around the world.”
The House Foreign Affairs Committee conducts oversight and considers legislation that impacts the diplomatic community, which includes the Department of State, the Agency for International Development (USAID), the Peace Corps, the United Nations, and the enforcement of the Arms Export Control Act.
In addition to his role on the Foreign Affairs Committee, Costa will continue to serve on the House Agriculture Committee. These committee appointments will allow him to address critical issues in the Valley, including reauthorizing the Farm Bill, improving trade relations, promoting diplomacy and security, and ensuring the United States can continue to lead on the global stage.
The 21st district is home to large ethnic populations including Indian, Southeast Asian, Latino, Portuguese, and Armenian communities, who seek interest in our relationships with countries across the globe. Costa will help shape U.S. foreign policy ranging from trade policy, diplomacy, human rights, and foreign aid, with a focus on strengthening global partnerships.
