February 6, 2023

WASHINGTON – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-21) announced that California Attorney General Rob Bonta will attend the 2023 State of the Union as the Congressman’s guest.

“As the people of California’s attorney, Rob Bonta is leading the charge to protect the safety and wellbeing of Californians,” said Costa. “He is fighting injustice, holding bad actors accountable, and tackling emerging threats to our public health.”

“Congressman Costa is a fearless fighter for California and I’m humbled by this invitation to be his guest at President Biden’s State of the Union Address,” said Attorney General Bonta. “Tonight is about the American people — and as the People’s Attorney, I’m grateful for leaders like Congressman Costa and President Biden who join the California Department of Justice in advancing safety and justice. As we celebrate President Biden’s historic accomplishments and agenda, we affirm our work continues to further protect the health, safety, and well-being of every American.”

Attorney General Rob Bonta was sworn in as the 34th Attorney General of the State of California, the first person of Filipino descent and the second Asian-American to occupy the position. Prior to this role, he served in the California State Assembly from 2012 to 2021.

Each year, Members of Congress are permitted to invite one guest to attend the State of the Union address, which is Tuesday, February 7.
