Costa Announces $254 Million for BF Sisk Dam and Sites Reservoir

January 8, 2025

WASHINGTON – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-21) and the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announced $254 million from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to bring clean, reliable drinking water to the San Joaquin Valley and California, including $125 million for B.F. Sisk Dam and $129 million for the Sites Reservoir Project.

“These federal investments are a game-changer for the San Joaquin Valley and California’s water future,” said Costa. “By expanding storage capacity at B.F. Sisk Dam and advancing the Sites Reservoir Project, we are addressing the persistent challenges of drought head-on. These efforts are critical to ensuring a clean, reliable water supply for our communities.”

This federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will fund the following projects:

  • B.F. Sisk Dam Raise and Reservoir Expansion Project: $125 million to the San Luis and Delta-Mendota Authority to pursue the B.F. Sisk Dam Raise and Reservoir Expansion Project. Once completed, the project will develop approximately 130,000 acre-feet of additional storage.
  • Sites Reservoir Project: $129 million to pursue off-stream storage capable of up to 1.5 million acre-feet of water in the Sacramento River system in the Coast Range mountains west of Maxwell, CA. The reservoir would utilize new and existing facilities to move water in and out of the reservoir, with ultimate release to the Sacramento River system via existing canals, a new pipeline near Dunnigan, and the Colusa Basin Drain.

This totals $338 million for BF Sisk Dam and nearly $400 million for Sites Reservoir in federal funding secured by Costa through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law.
