Fresno, CA – Rep. Jim Costa released the following statement in honor of the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom, where Dr. Martin Luther King delivered his historic “I Have a Dream Speech”.

“Today, we reflect not only on how far we have come, but remember that the struggle against social and economic inequality continues. It was not over when King stood at the Lincoln Memorial and inspired us to live up to our nation’s ideals. The fight did not end at Birmingham or when nine brave students walked through the doors of Central High School. Long after the sun set on Freedom Summer and President Johnson signed the Voting Rights Act, we still have more to do to form the more perfect union that President Lincoln described years before King.”

“Far too many give and have given too much for us to ever be complacent. We continue our march on the path toward true equality.”
