Costa: Delays Add To Uncertainty Experienced By Farmers And Further Exasperates An Already Serious Situation

FRESNO, CA- Today, Congressman Jim Costa (D-Fresno) and Congressman Dennis Cardoza (D-Merced) sent a letter to Department of the Interior Secretary, Ken Salazar, demanding that the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation announce irrigation water supply allocations for the 2010 irrigation season as soon as possible, preferably by Monday, February 22, 2010. Historically, the Bureau has announced allocations by February 20th, marking the beginning of a new irrigation season. With Valley farmers, farm workers, and the economy of the San Joaquin Valley already struggling under the weight of misguided Biological Opinions and other regulatory decisions, it is imperative that the Bureau announce the water supply allocations as soon as possible.
