Rep. Costa Announces $2,480,759 Million Grant for Kings Community Action Organization

WASHINGTON, DC- Today,Congressman Jim Costa (D-Fresno) announced that a grant of $2,480,759 has beenawarded to Kings Community Action Organization in Hanford, CAfor Head Start and Early Head Start Program. These funds are beingawarded through the Department of Health and Human Services Head Start programtitle, and will be used to fund and make improvements to the Head Start programin Hanford.

"Head Startis a vital part of early education for our young people," said Costa. "These funds ensure that another group of children can prepare themselves forkindergarten next fall, and will provide families with health and supportservices as well."

Head Startprovides comprehensive early childhood education and development services tolow-income preschool children on a part- or full-day basis. Under currentlaw, Head Start funds are provided directly by HHS to local grantees, whichmust comply with detailed federal performance standards.
