Costa Worried about California Bill's Impact on Valley Water, Urges Governor to Make Changes

September 6, 2019

(WASHINGTON) In his continuing effort to work with Federal and State legislators to solve California's water problems, Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) sent a letter to Governor Gavin Newsom urging him to include two amendments to Senate Bill 1 (SB1), a key piece of legislation that would have profound impacts on the long term availability of water in the Valley.

"We have the opportunity to work together to address California's water problems," said Costa. "We should be looking to the future where updated science can help us make the right decisions on how to allocate our precious water resources. Unfortunately, unless amended, Senate Bill 1 would take us in the wrong direction. I urge the legislature to amend the bill before it reaches the Governor's desk."

Rep. Costa was joined on the letter by Congressmen John Garamendi (CA-03), TJ Cox (CA-16), Josh Harder (CA-10) and California Senator Dianne Feinstein. He also co-authored an op-ed with Rep. Cox on the issue that was recently published in the Fresno Bee.
