Costa Resolution Calls for Recognizing ‘National Crime Victims Rights Week’

April 16, 2021

WASHINGTON – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16), founding member and Chairman of the Crime Survivors & Justice Caucus, introduced a resolution in support of 2021 National Crime Victims' Rights Week, recognizing the vital needs of crime victims and survivors..

"Every year, we designate a ‘National Crime Victims Rights Week' to honor both victims of crime and their loved ones and the individuals who advocate for them every day," said Costa. "We also recommit ourselves to ensuring survivors have the resources and assistance needed to heal, cope, and persevere after enduring trauma."

The 2021 National Crime Victims' Rights Week theme— "Support Victims. Build Trust. Engage Communities."– emphasizes the importance of leveraging community support to help victims of crime. This is especially true as we have see so many communities coping with mass violence in the past few weeks.

The bipartisan Congressional Crime Survivors and Justice Caucus works alongside allied organizations to identify, address, and elevate the needs of crime survivors through legislation, education, and public awareness. It also provides resources to members of Congress to help connect crime victims with local advocates who can provide needed assistance.
