Costa Announces 20th District Granted Funding For Juvenile Crime Prevention Programs

FRESNO, CA- In order to help combat juvenile crime in the CentralValley, Congressman Jim Costa announced today the 20thCongressional District will receive over $100,000 in funds from the UnitedStates Department of Justice.

Kern County will receive a total of $160,925 from the Officeof Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention. Representative Costa stated, "Kern County will use this grant to fundtheir Repeat Offender Prevention Program which is a collaborative model ofintensive probation supervision combined with community and familyservices." The program targetshigh-risk, non-violent, first-time juvenile offenders who live in the smallrural communities of northern Kern County. Costa goes on to note, "The goal of this program is to prevent relapsesin juvenile delinquency behavior."

This program is considered crucial to help prevent andreduce juvenile crime. "This funding will help law enforcement agencies becomebetter equipped to help guide juvenile delinquents away from crime and towardsmore constructive activities," concluded Costa. "The importance of this program is that it is giving positiveopportunities to those who need it most."
