Costa Announces $20M to Lower Energy Costs for Californians

WASHINGTON – Representative Jim Costa (CA-16) announced that California will receive $20,649,415 in federal funds to bring down heating and cooling costs for working families. These investments, secured through last month's government funding legislation, will be used to lower Californians' energy bills, provide crisis assistance, and help weatherize homes.
"Californians are struggling with skyrocketing global energy prices, it's critical that we lower costs and safeguard our energy economy," said Costa. "I am proud to have supported three major pieces of legislation that will ensure families don't need to choose between cooling their home or putting food on the dinner table. I encourage Valley residents to check their eligibility and apply for this critical benefit that will bring much-needed relief."
The funding announced today represents the fourth round of LIHEAP assistance over the past year. In total, Representative Costa and Congressional Democrats have fought for and won $407,666,109 in energy assistance for California households since last May.
Previous rounds were delivered through:
- American Rescue Plan: $203,610,805
- 2021 Continuing Resolution: $179,228,041
- Bipartisan Infrastructure Law: $4,177,848
The Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) helps keep families safe and healthy through initiatives that assist families with energy costs. It provides federally funded assistance in managing costs associated with home energy bills, energy crises, weatherization, and energy-related minor home repairs. (HHS.gov)
