June 25, 2007

Washington, D.C. -Today, Congressman Jim Costa announced that California's 20thCongressional District will receive $16 million in funding from theTransportation Equity Act: Legacy for Users (TEA-LU).

1.$9.5 million for Freeway 180 improvements from Hughes/West Avenue to Brawley in Fresno County, CA.

2.$3.5 million for rehabilitation, repair, and/or reconstruction of deficienttwo-lane roads that connect to Interstate 5, State Route 180, State Route 41,and State Route 99 countywide in Fresno County, CA.

3.$3 million to widen Route 198 between State Route 99 to State Route 43 in KingsCounty, CA.

"Thisfunding is the first step in a comprehensive local, state and federal effort tocomplete transportation projects in the 20th district. However, transportation needs in the Valleygreatly exceed what just federal money can provide. Without the continuedsupport for Measure C, these local projects might not be able to be completed.

Federalfunds should complement and enhance local efforts like the approval of MeasureC and the state meeting its transportation funding obligations."

AsTEA-LU undergoes final approval, the amount of funding the 20thdistrict receives may change.
