CONGRESSMAN COSTA ANNOUNCES FUNDS AWARDED TO KERN COUNTY

Fresno, CA - Today, Congressman Jim Costa (CA-20) announcedthat Kern County will receive approximately$310,000 from the United States Department of Justice and the United StatesDepartment Health and Human Services.

"These funds play an integral role in the county's abilityto maintain a safe environment in which residents can thrive," CongressmanCosta said.

The Kern County District Attorney will receive $71,352 forthe DNA Capacity Enhancement program. These funds will be used to improvelaboratory infrastructure and analysis capacity, which will allow the DistrictAttorney's office to process DNA samples in an efficient and cost effectivemanner.

In addition, Kern Medical Centerin Bakersfieldwill receive approximately $245,516 from the Health Resources and ServicesAdministration which is under the Department of Health and HumanServices. The grant money allocated under the Health Care and OtherFacilities Program will be used to purchase new equipment for Kern MedicalCenter.

"The realization of DNA technology's full potential willhelp keep our community safe. Inaddition, funding medical technology is critical to providing the best healthcare possible," Costa concluded.
