CONGRESSMAN COSTA ANNOUNCES FUNDS AWARDED TO FRESNO COUNTY

Fresno, CA - Today, Congressman Jim Costa (CA-20) announcedthat Fresno County will receive approximately$560,000 from the United States Department of Justice and the United StatesDepartment Health and Human Services.

"These funds play an integral role in the county's abilityto maintain a safe environment in which residents can thrive," CongressmanCosta said.

The Fresno County Sheriff Department will receive $110,000for the DNA Capacity Enhancement and Forensic Casework DNA Backlog Reductionprograms. A portion of these funds will be used to improve laboratoryinfrastructure and analysis capacity which will allow the Sheriff's Departmentto process DNA samples in an efficient and cost effective manner. Theremainder will be used to analyze backlogged forensic DNA casework.

In addition, CommunityRegional MedicalCenter in Fresno will receive approximately $450,000from the Health Resources and Services Administration which is under the Departmentof Health and Human Services. The grant money allocated under the HealthCare and Other Facilities Program will be used to improve facilities andpurchase equipment for an outpatient care clinic at Community RegionalMedical Center.

"The realization of DNA technology's full potential willhelp keep our community safe. Inaddition, funding medical technology is critical to providing the best healthcare possible," Costa concluded.
