Rep. Jim Costa recognized KMPH FOX26 for 50 years of service from the house floor in D.C.

FOX26 is celebrating 50 years on the air, serving the people of Central California.

Congressman Jim Costa, who also serves the people of Central California, recognized the milestone from the house floor in Washington, D.C.

The congressman talked about the decline in newspaper readership and national televised news viewership.

He also talked about local news stations have downsized over the years, relying on fewer reporters to inform the public what's happening in their communities.

"Getting local news is so critical to having an informed public," said Rep. Costa. "KMPH is no stranger to these challenges, but it continues to thrive and make a difference and inform the public."

A free press, as we all know, is at the cornerstone of our democracy.

"Local news plays an integral role in shaping America, keeping people informed, and allowing them to be active and participatory democracy," said Rep. Costa.

"50 years of public service is worth celebrating," said Costa. "Congratulations to KMPH in Fresno for 50 years of informing the public."
