Upgrading Airports in the Valley

California’s airports, many of which are aging and in urgent need of upgrades, have fallen behind their global counterparts. While the U.S. pioneered modern aviation, our airports now struggle with outdated facilities and infrastructure.

The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act allocates $15 billion specifically for airport redevelopment projects nationwide, focusing on essential improvements such as runway and taxiway upgrades, terminal expansions, and noise mitigation. In addition, the law provides an extra $5 billion for Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) towers and facilities, ensuring that funds are directed to airports in critical need of enhancement.

Fresno Yosemite-International Airport (FAT)

Fresno-Yosemite International Airport is one of the fastest-growing airports in the country, experiencing significant passenger growth and rising air travel demand. Over recent years, the airport has seen a remarkable increase in both domestic and international flights, reflecting a broader trend of growing interest in the San Joaquin Valley.

Since 2022, Costa has secured federal funding through the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and Community Project Funding (CPF) process to expand the terminal and modernize the infrastructure of the Fresno-Yosemite International Airport.

  • $14 million for improvements to the airport's taxiway, terminal development, and noise reduction efforts.

  • $7.1 million to build a new terminal concourse that will feature two international and domestic passenger bridges as part of the FAT Forward plan, a terminal expansion project estimated to bring an $85 million local economic impact.

These investments not only aim to improve passenger experience but also seek to bolster economic growth and job creation throughout the country, particularly in regions reliant on air travel.
