Costa Fights for the People of the San Joaquin Valley During the 116th Congress
(FRESNO) – Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement highlighting the House of Representative's accomplishments in the 116th Congressand underlining the need for the Senate to take action on more than 400 House-passed bills to improve the lives of hardworking Americans:
"From passing much-needed COVID-19 relief measures tolegislation to protect people with preexisting conditions, lower prescription drug prices and help our Dreamers, we've made real progress. Despite our hard work, the Senate is blocking us from achieving more. The fact that the Senate has not agreed to act on over 300 bipartisan bills is frankly irresponsible and a failure to fulfill its obligations to the American people."
During the 116th Congress, Congressman Costa has fought for the people of California's 16th District, introducing 12 pieces of legislation to benefit residents of the San Joaquin Valley, including building a medical school in the Valley, moving California High Speed Rail development forward, and creating a more sustainable water future for our communities and farmers.
More broadly, Congressman Costa has helpedto pass more than 600 bills, including legislation to help defeat the COVID-19 virus and boost our economy, lower health care costs and protect people with pre-existing conditions, raise wages by rebuilding our infrastructure, and clean up corruption and strengthen our Democracy. Of these 600 bills, 400 are being blocked by Mitch McConnell and Senate Republicans even though 340 bills are bipartisan.
Costa has also worked with Republicans and Democrats to reach across the aisle and get more than 150 bills signed into law.
