(WASHINGTON) - Congressman Jim Costa (CA-16) released the following statement after the United States Senate adjourned for the weekend without coming up with a new relief plan for millions of Americans who are about to lose unemployment benefits:

"With unemployment benefits set to expire today, the President and Senate Republicans are dragging their feet to provide help to millions of desperate Americans who are struggling to feed their families and pay their rent,” said Costa. “Without action now, thousands of families could be forced out of their homes and into even more perilous situations. The House passed a bill two months ago that would provide relief. Mitch McConnell and the Senate need to stop playing games and help the American people, especially when they need it the most."
