Costa top Dem on livestock panel

The House of Representatives continues to shape itself up for the 113th Congress, with Rep. Jim Costa, D-Fresno, now taking the top Democratic position on the House Livestock, Rural Development and Credit subcommittee.

The panel, part of the House Agriculture Committee, is chaired by sophomore Rep. Rick Crawford, R-Ark. It's going to be in the middle of efforts to write a new farm bill, a task that stymied the Republican-controlled House last year. The committee's jurisdiction spans livestock, dairy, poultry, meat, seafood and seafood products, inspection, rural development and agricultural credit, among other topics.
