Americans will also be able to shop for coverage in new easy-to-understand marketplaces that allow easy comparison of health plans. Covered California is a new marketplace that provides opportunities for families, individuals, and small businesses to purchase health insurance. Open enrollment begins October 1st. If you have insurance right now through your work, Medicare, Medi-Cal, California Healthy Families or the VA, your plan stays the same. If you do not have insurance you may be eligible for Med-Cal or financial assistance in the health insurance marketplace for individuals and small businesses.

Medi-Cal and California Healthy Families

Medi-Cal is California's Medicaid health care program. This program pays for a variety of medical services for children and adults with limited income and resources. Small Businesses will have a new opportunity to provide quality coverage to their employees through Covered California’s Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP). Tax credits are also available to help make employee coverage more affordable for businesses with 1-50 employees.
